Inspiration for this repair came from a want to minimize landfill. This 16 year old turbo Subaru was going to be scrapped. The specialist range helped me in many ways. Living on the coast everything in the engine bay was soaked (penetrant) to make removal of the rusty old bolts easy. EZY-reach flexxy spray was a lifesaver for the dump pipe nuts. Then it all got a scrub (brake and parts cleaner) pre repair, knowing all cleaning agents were suitable for aluminum was reassuring for the turbo and long block as I knew nothing was going to be damaged further. Air duster was a good air compressor replacement, most of this was done on the front deck and in the driveway rather than a workshop. All parts that could rust were then relubed (standard wd40) and bagged so I didn’t have to rush the re-installation. Electrical parts, harness, maf sensor etc. were cleaned (contact cleaner wd40). Throttle body with throttle body and choke cleaner; a part too expensive to risk using just anything. Reassembly went smoothly and quickly because prep was efficient. Both air and coolant hoses got spray and stay, much better than hairspray… In the end the bay got silicone spray wiped for the gloss finish. Spare time and money gained was spent with/on dog, see smiley hound.
