Sustainability is important to me as well, and I wanted to convert my carport into a garage, using sustainable products where possible. Because the roof was designed to be a floor for a future second storey, I had the option of concrete (not sustainable) or timber and steel frame. Steel is known to have high embodied carbon, so I decided to try and use recycled steel .. and managed to find all but one column in the local salvage yard. WD40 not only helped us keep all our tools working nicely and in good nick, we used it as a lubricant when erecting the timber joists between the steel frame. As they were a cut fit around the flange, using WD40 as a lubricant to help slide them into place allowed us to get a very snug fit between the joists and steel - not only stronger but a much better finish 👍
